Background
In this activity, you will use various commands to examine three different switching topologies and compare the similarities and differences between the 2960 and 3560 switches. You will also compare the routing table of a 1941 router with a 3560 switch.
Part 1:     Compare Layer 2 and Layer 3 Switches
a.     Examine the physical aspects of D1 and ASw-1
·         How many physical interfaces does each switch have in total?

·         How many Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces does each switch have?

·         List the transmission speed of the Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces on each switch.
Kecepatan transmisi Fast Ethernet pada D1 adalah 24 x 100 Mbps = 2400 Mbps.
Sedangkan Gigabit Ethernetnya sebesar 2 x 1 Gbps = 2 Gbps . Kondisi yang sama juga ada di Switch ASw-1.
·         Are either of the two switches modular in design?
Bukan jenis Switch modular tetapi, Keduanya adalah jenis Switch Fix Configuration.




b.    The interface of a 3560 switch can be configured as a Layer 3 interface by entering the no switchport command in interface configuration mode. This allows technicians to assign an IP address and subnet mask to the interface the same way it is configured on a router’s interface.
·         What is the difference between a Layer 2 switch and a Layer 3 switch?
      Switch layer 3 memiliki kemampuan yang hampir sama dengan Router seperti dapat diberikan Ip address di Interface nya, sedangkan Switch layer 2 tidak bisa
·         What is the difference between a switch’s physical interface and the VLAN interface?
-Interface Fisik adalah interface yang terhubung dengan jaringan. Contohnya interface Ethernet/FastEthernet, interface Serial, interface Management. Sedangkan
-Interface VLAN adalah interface untuk membuat sebuah switch menjadi beberapa jaringan, dan jika menggunakan VLAN, maka tingkat keamanan nya lebih besar dibanding dengan LAN biasa. Contoh nya, jika salah satu komputer dalam sebuah switch ada VLAN 10, VLAN 20, VLAN 30.
·         On which layer does a 2960 and 3560 operate?
Switch 2960 berkerja pada layer 2 (Layer Data Link), Sedangkan Switch 3560 berkerja pada layer 3(Layer Network) dan (Layer Data Link).
·         Which command allows a technician to assign an IP address and subnet mask to the Fast Ethernet interface on a 2960?
Perintah yang dapat digunakan adalah
Pada Layer 2 tidak bisa diberi IP Adress dan Subnet Masknya, Tetapi bisa memberi IP pada Vlan nya.

Part 2:     Compare a Layer 3 Switch and a Router
a.     Up until recently, switches and routers have been separate and distinct devices. The term switch was set aside for hardware based devices that function at Layer 2. Routers, on the other hand, are devices that make forwarding decisions based on Layer 3 information and use routing protocols to share routing information and to communicate with other routers. Layer 3 switches, such as the 3560, can be configured to forward Layer 3 packets. Entering the ip routing command in global configuration mode allows Layer 3 switches to be configured with routing protocols, thereby possessing some of the same capabilities as a router. However, although similar in some forms, they are different in many other aspects.
·         Open the Physical tab on D1 and R1. Do you notice any similarities and differences between the two?



Perbedaanya :
-R1 tidak memiliki interface FastEthernet tetapi memiliki interface serial. Sedangkan,
-D1 memiliki interface FastEthernet tetapi tidak memiliki interface serial, Akan tetapi keduanya memiliki interface GigabitEthernet.
Kesimpulannya :
-Keduanya memiliki port konsol dan keduanya memiliki dua interface Gigabit Ethernet.
-R1 bersifat modular dan dapat menambahkan berbagai interface sementara D1 hanya memiliki interface tetap.
-R1 memiliki interface  SERIAL dan Asynchronous sedangkan D1 hanya memiliki inteface Ethernet.
            -D1 hanya bisa menggunakan kabel tembaga sedangkan R1 bisa menggunakan berbagai tipe koneksi.

       Kesimpulannya  R1 dan D1 memiliki karakteristik yaitu :
       -R1 dan D1 memiliki IP Address yang sama yang dikonfigurasikan dengan interface  yang berbeda.
       -Pada D1 agar port switch dapat di berikan IP Address harus mengeluarkan perintah no switchport.
       -Sedangkan pada R1 agar port switch dapat di berikan IP Address tidak menggunakan  perintah no switchport.

Kesimpulannya :
-Kodenya sama kecuali router memiliki kode L untuk lokal.
Ini adalah link yang dikonfigurasi pada antarmuka fisik R1, sementara switch  D1 tidak memilikinya.
-Kedua perangkat menampilkan jaringan yang sama di tabel routing.

Perbedaanya :
-Pada D2 dan R2 tersetting Router EIGRP sedangkan pada D1 dan R1 tidak tersetting Router EIGRP.
-Karena D2 dan R2 memiliki konfigurasi EIGRP dan keduanya saling terhubung satu sama lain.

b.    Verify that each topology has full connectivity be completing the following tests:
·         Ping from PC1 to PC2

·         Ping from PC3 to PC4

·         Ping from PC5 to PC6

·         In all three examples, each PC is on a different network. Which device is used to provide
communication between networks?
Perangkat yang digunakan untuk saling berkomunikasi antar jaringan adalah Router atau multilyer Switch.
Perangkat yang digunakan yaitu D1,R1,dan R2
·         Why were we able to ping across networks without there being a router?
Karena Switch multilayer bisa membuat fungsi routing antar jaringan.
Kesimpulannya :
-Switch multilayer dapat berkomunikasi dengan antar jaringan selama dikonfigurasi dengan IP Address dan mengaktifkan IP routing.
-Jika diaktifkan IP routing dengan tujuan untuk menjalankan protokol routing seperti EIRGP di Switch.sedangkan perintah switchport tidak harus diaktifkan pada interface untuk menetapkan IP Address dan subnet mask pada interface fisik switch.
